EXPOSITION:
The place of God’s word in the home and especially in the life of the youth cannot be underestimated. Scripture tells us that one of the weapons for overcoming in spiritual warfare is the word of God. Ephesians 6:7 says “And take the helmet of Salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God”. This verse shows us how powerful the word of God is, God’s word can literally change our hearts, thoughts and actions if we allow the word to have access into our lives.
This is why God instructed the people of Israel to fix his words on their hearts and minds; they should tie them as symbols on their hands and bind them on their foreheads. Furthermore, they should teach them to their children, talking about them when they sit at home and when they walk along the road, when they lie down and when they rise up. Moreover, they should write them on the doorframes of their houses and on their gates, so that their days and the days of their children may be many in the land that the Lord swore to give their forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
As Christians we cannot allow ourselves to be swept away in the undercurrent of busyness. The word of God empowers us to face temptations and overcome them. It reveals the mind of God to us. It also encourages us and fills us with joy in the face of challenges. The word makes us grow strong spiritually so that we cannot be easily blown away by the wind of the increasing false teaching in our society today. A family that places prime importance on the word of God will always enjoy the favour and the blessings of the Lord.
