THE BIBLE

2 Timothy 3:16-17

EXPOSITION:

The word Bible was derived from the Greek word ‘Biblos’ and the Latin word ‘Biblia’ which means book(s). It is divided into two main sessions, namely the Old Testament and the New Testament. Together, sixty-six (66) different books make the Bible, written in approximately 1500 years by about forty (40) human authors through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Initially, the Bible was written in three languages; Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. People from different backgrounds wrote the Bible which includes fishermen, priests, kings, physicians, government officials to mention but a few.

The Bible is the most read book in the entire universe. It is consistently the best seller and has been translated into more languages than any other book. It is the most widely referenced book. Every day, people from all walks of life across the globe make reference to the Bible. Many nations, in the establishment of their constitutions, picked Biblical principles.

Despite the fact that the last books of the Bible were written before AD 100, it can be described as one of the most modern books in our days. It answers life’s greatest questions which are; where did I come from? Why am I here? and Where am I going?

This week, we will take time to study about the Bible and look at how we can boldly defend our faith and the reason why we believe the Bible is the Word of God.

PRAYER: Lord, please open the eyes of my understanding to know more of Your Word.

MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK: 2 Peter 1:20-21 (NIV): “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came from the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though humans, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” #PossessingtheNations
