Exposition

Sustaining your spirituality in a new environment is a very crucial subject for discussion and, as a believer, you need not compromise your spirituality or spiritual life. Spirituality is the state of having a connection to God. It involves the recognition of a feeling or belief that there is something greater than human sensory experience, and that the greater whole of which we are part is divine in nature.

According to the scripture reading, Samson was to connect to God and obey the instructions of God through his parents but he could not sustain his spirituality. Samson’s weakness was women. No doubt about it. Upon seeing the woman, he would say, “I’ve got to have her!” Here’s Samson’s first mistake. Don’t make decisions on pleasure but rather make decisions based on the principles of God.

The fact is God had said “Don’t do it!”, his parents had warned him, he had made a vow himself not to marry an unbeliever. But when he saw this woman, his convictions went out the door. He ignored his plans; he followed his glands. He couldn’t sustain his spirituality in the new environment, the land of the Philistine.

To sustain your spirituality, you must discipline your desires. Just because you want something doesn’t mean you should have it. To sustain your spirituality, you must practice the secret of spiritual growth, and the act of holiness. God’s word is a divine tool for spiritual growth or spirituality. Again, grow in the presence of God and finally develop your spiritual life. Endeavour to sustain your spirituality, your divine connection with God and living right according to His will and purpose.
