Exposition:

Picture an assembly ground without authority a teacher or the principal at sight, it is likely that the whole place will be chaotic. Whenever God has an agenda for his people, He sets over them authorities or leaders to lead his people towards that goal. This is no exception in our world system for the Bible says in Romans 13: 1 that “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God”, meaning that authorities are established by God.

We are subjects to the leaders of our land. This means that we must submit to their power and that we must obey those who rule over us, regardless of how we feel about them. God has placed individuals in positions of authority in such a way that it pleases him, and we must constantly submit to the ruling authority. In doing this, we pursue peace and quietness in the land and that is one key thing every government seeks to attain.

God used King Ahab, King Nebuchadnezzar in the days of Daniel, King Ahasuerus in Esther’s days and many more to fulfil his assignment. Whether they are godly or not, we must be subject to their authority because it is God who has established it and we must stand for what God has established and not rebel. Christians have only one cause to disobey the government. And that is when they tell us to break God’s laws. Otherwise, we are called to be peacemakers by Jesus Christ our Lord, and this is done through Submitting to authority.
