EXPOSITION:
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. It was the greatest demonstration of the power of God ever. Without the resurrection, our belief in God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ is destroyed. The entire faith of Christians rests or falls on the resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus Christ forms part of the central theme of our faith. Our faith in Christ Jesus is a response that we are partakers of His resurrection. Through the resurrection, Christ confirmed His identity as the son of God and His work of Atonement, Redemption, Reconciliation and Salvation.
When Jesus told Martha that Lazarus would rise again, she took this to refer to “the resurrection of the last day (John 11:23-24). It is at this point that Jesus makes this explicit and astounding claim “I AM the resurrection and the Life, he who believes in me even if he dies, will live and everyone who lives and believes in me will certainly not die” (John 11:25-26). With this claim, Jesus is not simply stating that He imparts resurrection and life, but He Himself is resurrection and life. He is the source of both – “there is no resurrection apart from Christ and there is no life apart from Christ. Christ is life and death has no power over him.
LIFE APPLICATION:
Our faith in Jesus Christ helps us to receive the life which is in Christ and therefore makes us partakers of His resurrection. If death could not hold Christ captive, death has no power over us because of the life we have received from Christ. Even if we die, we shall be raised again.
