Exposition

We live in a generation I term “sex crazy” generation. Almost everything is centred on sex. This is prevalent even on the television stations. The question lingering on the mind of the youth is can someone be single and still remain chaste? As a Christian, the answer is yes, for it is written in Phil 4:13 that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

God’s plan since creation was that our sexuality should find its expression in a male –female relationship of a husband and a wife. Anything outside this is fornication and as a single person wanting to enjoy the blessings that come from singlehood, you must flee from it no matter the pressure from the world. The Bible clearly states that the body is not meant for sexual immorality (1 Cor. 6:13b). As a single person, your utmost desire should be to please the Lord and attract His grace upon your life to be used mightily by Him. Sexual immorality is prevalent in the world today but as a Christian you must flee from it.

Fleeing from sexual immorality is to make all frantic efforts to desist from any activity that would lead you to it. Some of these activities include kissing, petting, fondling, etc. When Joseph was tempted by Potiphar’s wife, he fled. As a single person, it is not advisable to be in an environment that can lure you into sexual immorality. It is interesting to note that Joseph made a profound statement in Gen 39:9 that “how can I do this great wickedness and sin against God.’’

Additionally, you are admonished to be vigilant on what you watch in your quest to remain chaste since that can lure you into sexual immorality. Feed your mind with the word of God so as not to gratify the desires of the flesh. Remember that, though you are in the world, you must not conform to the patterns of the world but be transformed by the renewing of the mind.
