Exposition:

One of the most essential things Christians can do to help achieve good governance is to pray passionately for people in positions of power. Prayer becomes essential in ensuring good governance in our country and the world at large. The instrument of participation and influence, lies in the weapon of prayer. We are also given the duty of praying for earthly governments that they may fulfil the tasks God has given to them.

Apostle Paul gave Timothy a charge in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, that prayers, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. To make strong emphasis on the call to prayer, He admonishes us to engage in supplications, intercessions, prayers and giving of thanks which are all different forms of prayer. In other words, God is calling us to engage in all kinds of prayer for our leaders and people in authority.

We would pray that our land will bear prosperity for the people, that the cause of the poor is defended, that deliverance be given to the children of the needy and that the oppressors of people in our habitation be crushed. We may or may not feel compelled to pray for our leaders, and we may or may not believe that they are doing the best they can, however, necessity is laid on us to pray. As corrupt as some may appear, it is still our responsibility to pray for those who rule over us. If we desire good governance, the divine direction and participation is to Pray!

For this is one of the channels created by God to ensure good governance through our leaders remember, the heart of a king is in the hands of God.
