Exposition

Growing up there was this classmate who did not like mathematics. He feared everything that relates to mathematics including teachers, materials, discussions, quizzes, and exams. This led to him having sleepless nights before mathematics papers, sweating in class and examination centres, having severe headaches, and eventually poor results in the subject. He convinced himself that he was daft, and this led to numerous thoughts of suicide and dropping out of school. Negative emotions have negative impacts on individuals. They can create extra stress in your body and mind. Negative emotions of helplessness and hopelessness can create chronic stress, which upsets the body’s hormone balance, reduces the brain chemicals required for happiness, and damages the immune system.

Chronic stress can actually decrease your lifespan. Poorly managed or excess anger could lead to medical conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), cardiovascular disease, digestive disorders, and infection. It can destroy relationships and trust which took years to build. Bad emotions can also affect your spiritual life; They can lead to lack of concentration in reading the Bible, holding a grudge against someone, reduced desire to pray, fast, or attend church service. Bad emotions can also lead you to sin. It is God’s desire that we enjoy good health and all things working together for our good, therefore, do not become a slave to your emotions. Do not conclude that, “this is who I am, that is how I behave when I feel this way hence people have to accept me for that”. There is grace to overcome bad emotions (Titus 2:11-12).
