Exposition
In this era of technology, scriptural meditation seems to be a thing of the past for many young Christians. Christians prefer to just read a devotional message on the phone via social media while busily doing something else. The Bible is read only when there is time. However, as Christians, we must deliberately make time not only to read our Bibles but also to meditate on the Scriptures.
To meditate is to prayerfully focus on or think through the Scriptures to gain a better understanding and insight into what you may have read. It is during this period that the Spirit of God communes with our spirit. Meditation can also be likened to rumination which is the process of chewing the cud by ruminants such as cattle, sheep, goats, etc. The ruminant after taking in the food, brings it out, re-chews it and then swallows it. This it does till the food arrives at the final compartment of the stomach. The stomach of the ruminant is divided into four compartments. Digestion takes between twenty to fifty hours depending on the type of feed.
This is how the Lord expects His children to handle His Word. You should not just rush through the reading of the Word, thereby satisfying your conscience but you need to study it thoroughly, meditating on it and practically applying it to our lives. Quality time must be spent to really digest the Word of God. When you do this, you will not be swayed away by false doctrines which have hit the airwaves and all manner of falsehood that are being peddled around in the name of Christianity.
