J.P. Guilford, an American Psychologist, defines Learning as ‘any change in behaviour, resulting from behaviour’. This is to say that any person whose behaviour does not change has not learned. The change from a sinner to a saint is from an encounter with the knowledge of God. This knowledge deepens as we read and learn more about him. The Psalmist said – “
How can a young man live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word. I’m single-minded in pursuit of you; don’t let me miss the road signs you have posted. I relish everything you’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a word of it.’’ Ps 119:9-10, 16 (MSG). The secret things of God can be accessed not just by reading but by learning or studying the Word of God. The easiest place to find Him is in the Bible. Try to see what God is trying to say to you as you read – ask Him what He wants to show you. He wants you to stop talking and listen – listen until you hear Him. This will enable you ‘Have’ something to hold onto and also ‘Show’ others the knowledge you have had in God. It is called meditation.
The word of God is not just letters of the alphabet with banded leather. The word is a person called Jesus Christ (John 1:1, Rev 19:13). The more you study the word, the more you know about the person of God – His nature, power, works, likes and dislikes.
