Exposition

Before God created Adam and his wife, He made provision for everything they would need including money. The Pishon River that flowed through the whole land of Havilah in the Garden of Eden was full of good gold and onyx stone. The Lord blessed them with riches and wealth. The patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were blessed with riches and wealth. Genesis 13:2 states that, “Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold”.

Scriptures clearly testify that Abraham was very rich in gold and silver and God blessed him in all things. The Lord takes delight in His children becoming rich. God’s view on money is good. All that God expects from His children is to acknowledge that it is He who gave you the power to be rich. The Lord, through Moses, admonished the Israelite to be careful not to say in their heart, “My power and strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me. But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth”. God’s mind on money is that, you will recognize that it is He (God) who gave you the power to be rich.

In 1 Timothy 6:17-19, the rich people in the church were commanded not to be arrogant nor to put their trust and hope in their wealth. As God blesses you with money, you must not be proud and make money your “god” but you must put all your faith, trust and hope in Christ Jesus. The rich were also instructed to do good to others, to be generous and willing to share and also to be rich in good deeds. Apostle Paul explained that it will help them layup treasures for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and also take hold of the true life. The heavens and the earth and everything in it belongs to the Lord. When everything goes on well with you and He blesses you with money and riches, you must not forget the Lord your God. Acknowledge Him and do good to others.
