EXPOSITION:

God provided water for the Israelites from the rock enroute to Canaan. However, in the new way He said “Rivers will flow on the desert.” Meaning in Egypt the water came from the rock to quench their present thirst to satisfy their present needs. In the new thing it will not be water but rivers flowing in the desert. Desert is a place with no life but if rivers will flow then the place will be fertile, fruitful, profitable and a place of deliverance. He is a God of a “movement” not a “monument.” He is dynamic in all His ways and in the things He does. In the old way the Israelites knew God as bringing water from the rock and parting the red sea into two. This almost made them box God in that method and even put him in their mathematical equation. This is what the prophecy is asking us not to do because though our God is unchanging, He keeps changing His methods when dealing with man.

May we never be too familiar with the methods and ways of God so as not to be ahead of him with our mathematical equations and formula. As we grow in Him in fellowship, may our desire be like Paul who exclaimed in Philippians 3:10 (AMP) that “For my determined purpose is that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly……”
