EXPOSITION:
Paul writes in this letter to the Colossians that, he prays that they would be “filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding” Col.1:9. We are going to study what the letter to Colossae itself contributes to that basic understanding so essential to true spiritual enlightenment. The word Messiah in Hebrew is the same as Christ in Greek! It simply means that Jesus is the Anointed One! Apostle Paul wanted them to understand the MISSION of Christ’s Church. Every Member of the Church of Christ has been given the primal responsibility of sharing the good news about Christ to all creation; understanding Christ or the Messiah is as important us understanding the Mission of the Church. Again, he wanted them to understand the MESSAGE or GOSPEL of CHRIST. The Gospel is the only message that holds the hope of eternal life and reveals the mystery long hidden. This gospel is God’s truth as opposed to the false philosophies of men.
LIFE APPLICATION:
Spiritual enlightenment is essentially “knowledge of God’s will” and God’s will must be done, not just understood. Paul wants our understanding and knowledge to produce.

- Strength and steadfastness (Colossians 1:11)
- Joy and gratitude (Colossians 1:12)
