Exposition

The Oxford Dictionary defines emotion as “A strong feeling deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others.” John Bloom once said that “God designed your emotions to gauge, not guide.” That is, they are indicators, not controllers, so they are meant to report to you, not dictate to you. The pattern of your emotions determines where your trust or heart is because they are wired into what you believe and value. Emotions vary; some are more painful and memorable, some more lasting and cause more damage, and some are necessary, bringing good to us. You must therefore grow in Emotional intelligence (the ability to perceive, use, understand, manage, and handle emotions) since your emotions are wired into both your fallen and born-again natures, or else you can be manipulated to act faithlessly.

Emotions are like a full river. They break the banks that have long been standing, the water flows out, and destruction is caused. Other emotions are like still waters that run deep. They have an appearance of calmness, but one can drown in them. Do you know that you have a new life in Christ, and to maintain this, you have to leave every canal life and focus on Him? Are you aware you are not ordinary as you are seated in Heavenly places? Keep anticipating Christ’s appearance and you being with Jesus forever in glory and control your old nature as our reading in Colossians indicated.
