Exposition:

Reading about stories of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:5), Samson (Judges 13:7), John the Baptist (Luke 1:13-15), and the Apostle Paul (Galatians 1:15-16) shows that God sets people apart for assignments He has for them on earth. Ephesians 2:10 reiterates God’s commitment to assigning work for us and preparing us for it when we accept Christ as Lord and Saviour. However, the individual (young person) will have to apply him/herself to the task by finding possible ways of becoming the best of whom God wanted them to be in the performance of the assigned task.

It is noticeable in the above stories that God was clear about His purpose for an individual and communicated it to them. In some instances, the parents of the individual were alerted that the child they would have was set apart for a special purpose. God told Jeremiah that He set him apart to be a prophet to the nations. He told Paul that He had called him to preach Christ to the Gentiles. He told Samson’s mother that her son would save the Israelites from the Philistines.

Since everyone is different, you will need to define the terms of success for yourself. The week’s devotion takes a look at discovering your full potential by committing yourself to the process of self-improvement with Christ as your guide. That is, sail your own ocean with Christ at the center, and be the best person that you can be.
