DEVELOPING PHYSICAL COMPETENCE

Psalm 139: 14-15; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Exposition

The human body was created as a complex structure and as a medium through which your soul and spirit can be expressed. It serves as a vessel for you to carry out all your activities. As a young person, you must appreciate your physical body just as the psalmist did. You can best appreciate it when you see it as a gift from God. Even though you may see flaws with your body, God was pleased with it and so you have to value it.

Beyond appreciating your physical nature, you must seek to develop its potential. Physical development refers to a broad range of activities that develop personal fitness and promote an active and healthy lifestyle. As a Christian, you are supposed to be a good steward of your body, knowing that it is the temple of God. Taking good care of your body includes maintaining a healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly and paying attention to your health, practising personal hygiene and having good eating habits, learning to balance healthy activities with sufficient rest, going for regular check-ups and ensuring personal safety precautions.

Stress management is very key in developing your physical being. Also, you must endeavour to discipline your body and bring it under control regarding its desires. Developing your physical competencies in this manner will give you the sound mind you need to pursue excellence in all other aspects of your life.

Prayer Guide: Lord, please help me manage my physical being wisely.

Memory Verse For This Week: Daniel 1:7 (ESV) – “As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”
