Exposition:

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses and was written by an unknown author. The writer discusses being passionately devoted to God’s word and the blessings that come with it in this chapter. Psalm 119 in its entirety talks about the importance (value) of the word of God – Unlocking the Psalms (Alfred Koduah PhD. 2020).

From our scripture reading, the writer enumerates the blessings we will derive from delighting and paying heed to the word of God. When we study the word of God and walk in it, we become undefiled or blameless. And when we are blameless, we are confident of the presence of God in our lives as youths who are being prepared to influence our spheres of life. Another blessing the poet talks of is that those who keep the statutes of God will never be put to shame. By extension, when we read and keep the word of God, we will never be put to shame because we will surely enjoy all the blessings that come with obeying God’s word (Romans 5:1-5).

As Christian youth, we must always delight in God’s word in order to reap all of its benefits. Not only should we delight in God’s word, but we should also walk in it and be influenced by it, rather than by men’s traditions and philosophies. (Colossians 2:8).

Meditate on the words of the following song:

When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His word

What a glory he sheds on our way,

When we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who

will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.
