Exposition
The operation of the spiritual gifts is very necessary for the growth of the church and also for soul-winning. For the gifts to be put into proper use, we need to submit ourselves to spirit-filled leaders, who are more mature than us to be mentored and guided.

We read in 1 Samuel 10 of Saul who had encountered the Prophet Samuel. Saul received directions from the Holy Spirit through Samuel and when he followed what Samuel said, the Holy Spirit came upon Him and caused Him to prophesy, bringing out the gift of the Spirit in Him. 2 Timothy 1:6 also tells us of Timothy who, through the guidance (laying on of hands) of Paul, received the gift.

As young people, we need some level of guidance from the fathers and mothers who have gone ahead of us in the Lord. They help us to fully uncover the gifts we have and direct us on the right channel to express these gifts. Without their guidance, we are likely to make mistakes in the manifestation of our gifts and these can bring many problems.

In God’s covenant with the Church of Pentecost, there is a portion that says “He would pour abundant spiritual gifts on both men and women.” This is later followed by this statement: Spiritual gifts to the Church are to be controlled to prevent them from being used by Satan to his advantage. This highlights the need for mentoring in the exercise of our spiritual gifts.
