Be A God-Chaser; The Example Of Elisha.

Scripture Reference: 2 Kings 2:1-14.

Exposition:

Spiritual virtues are free and available in abundance, but they are certainly not cheap. Many people long for the anointing to experience the next dimension of God’s glory and power but are unwilling to pay the price. God-chasers do not just long for the anointing, they take calculated steps into getting the anointing. Indeed, there are higher levels in God reserved for only those who are interested. Divine virtues are so precious that one must demonstrate that he or she is seriously in need of them before one can get hold of them. This is what we see in the life of Elisha.

Take note of Elisha’s response in verse 2-7 when asked by Elijah to stay behind as he went ahead. Obviously, he did not stay behind but followed Elijah all the way from Gilgal, to Bethel, to Jericho, and to the Jordan. God-chasers know exactly what they want, and they stick to that till they finally get it. Contrast the attitude of Elisha to that of the sons of the prophet in verse 7.

The sons of the prophet were equally aware that the Lord was about to take Elijah away, yet they followed at a distance, but Elisha followed closely till he and Elijah crossed the Jordan on dry ground. What an experience! It is only those who crave for deeper things in God who will experience deeper things. God chasers are determined and are focused. They are not easily distracted and because of that, they get the privilege of receiving more from God. Eventually, when Elijah was taken up into heaven, the double portion of Elijah’s spirit fell on him. Dearly beloved, there are certain things in God that are taught but for others they need to be caught.

I shudder to think that the years of observing Elijah’s ministry alone could have been enough to secure Elisha the double portion of the anointing on Elijah. He needed to take extra steps to get the extraordinary. Are you willing to do same today?

Prayer Guide: Dear Lord, may we be fervent in our pursuit of your anointing and presence.
