Be A God-Chaser!

Scripture Reference: Psalm 42:1-11.

Exposition:

There is nothing that can satisfy the weary souls of mortals more than an inner inkling to knowing and following after God. Where are the God-chasers? To be a God-chaser is to long for God, to be an ardent follower of Him and not just an adherent to a body of beliefs and practices. The soul of the God-chaser pants after God as the deer pants for the flowing streams. The flowing streams of living water is what the Psalmist was longing for with all eagerness to drink, and that can only be found in God. (See also Isaiah 44:3; John 4:10)

Read v.2 again and notice the question the Psalmist posed. To the God-chasers, it is not just a matter of what or who but a matter of how or when. When will I meet God, when will I appear before him, when and how will I hear from God, when and how will I see God, when will I be filled, when will you hear me oh God. That is the cry of a God-chaser. They crave for things that have eternal significance and they are prepared to sacrifice everything they have for it.

People and circumstances cannot intimidate them. Notice again the cry of the Psalmist in v.3 and take note of the number of times “why” appears from v.5-11. God-chasers always ask why because they know that spiritual mediocrity and naivety does not produce in any person the desired intimacy with God and hence the search for the right answers. God-chasers long to be in the presence of God daily, praying and praising Him. Indeed, there is so much in God that we desperately need in order to enjoy our walk with him. Will you join the train of the God-chasers in this season of God’s massive outpouring of his grace and power?

Prayer Guide: Oh God, I ask that you sustain in me a deeper longing for you all the days of my life in Jesus’ name.
