Topic: Be Fervent In Spirit.

Scripture References: Acts 18:24-28; Romans 12:11.

Exposition:

To be fervent means displaying a passionate intensity. It also means hot, burning and glowing, as defined by google. Thus, fervency in spirit suggests an intense passion for the worship / service of God. It is characterized by a radical attitude in serving God, an attitude that gives no room for a limitation. Romans 12:11 encourages us to be fervent always and not give room for our zeal to be quenched because when our zeal is quenched, we will slack in service.

Apollos is described as a man who “spoke with great fervour” (Acts 18:25). He was very teachable. He allowed Priscilla and Aquila to teach him more about God (v. 26). Full of enthusiasm for proclaiming the Gospel, he rose to prominence in the Christian faith and was of great help wherever he went. He was a gifted teacher and apologist, and he demonstrated it everywhere he went, boldly facing all oppositions.

To be successful in our ministry and in possessing the nations, we must have nothing less than the zeal of Christ. We must be committed to daily prayer because “the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much (Jam 5:16). We must study God’s word earnestly and be consistent in the use of all our gifts / abilities and be humble enough to allow ourselves to be taught so that our zeal will be in the right direction. Without this attitude, our service will be full of Luke-warmness, which is an abomination to God.

Prayer Guide: I pray Lord, for the fervency of Christ. Help me to overcome any lukewarm attitude in my Christian service, in Jesus’ name.
