STRENGTH AND BOLDNESS FOR SERVICE

Scripture References: Acts 2:1-14, 38-41.

Exposition:

The day of Pentecost is seen as the birthday of the Christian church. This was a day that the early disciples, numbering about 120, encountered the Holy Spirit. From that day, the Holy Spirit became resident in the church, leading the church to greater exploits. In the encounter, the Holy Spirit’s appearance was preceded by the sound of a violent wind followed by tongues of fire.

Peter, after encountering the Holy Spirit, stood up to preach to the masses that had gathered there. Previously, Peter had denied Jesus 3 times due to fear. However, after the encounter with the Holy Spirit, he stood up to speak with all boldness (v. 14) and through that 3000 persons repented (v. 41).

When we encounter the Holy Spirit, He takes away the weakness and cowardice in us. He gives us boldness and strength to do the will of God. So, for us to excel in our service of God, we need to yearn for and pray for an encounter with the Holy Spirit.

However, before the disciples encountered the Holy Spirit, they waited upon Him in the Upper room for 10 days, fasting and praying for the encounter. Spend time with the Holy Spirit and you will encounter Him.

Prayer Guide: Bring me to Your brook and feed me with Your very self; a touch of You can change my life and set my soul on fire to do Your will. Touch me oh Holy Spirit.

MEMORY VERSE FOR THIS WEEK:

1 Samuel 10:6 (NIV) – “The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.”
