DEVELOPING ROOTS AGAINST THE STORM II.

Scripture Reference: Mark 4:35-41.

Exposition:

According to today’s scripture, Jesus and his disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee in a boat. Suddenly a furious storm came up, with the waves breaking over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was so exhausted that He was asleep on a cushion in the stern, and the disciples woke him up and asked, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown? They had done everything within their powers to calm down the storms but to no avail.

In the situation of the disciples it wasn’t a spiritual storm, but rather a physical storm. When they left the docks that evening, everything was fine. However, it only took a split second for things to go horribly wrong. The winds picked up and the waves crashed over the boat, and the disciples were afraid. When storms come, they bring emotions of fear, anger, frustration, and uncertainty.

Beloved, we need to clearly understand that in our Christian journey we are likely to come across some forms of storms. Storms are part of life and are bound to happen. Have you ever experienced storms in your life? Those times where things just didn’t make sense. Times where your problems seemed so big and your faith seemed so small. Times where you felt so swamped and so afraid that you were going to be taken over by the storm. I think we have all had feelings like that! Jesus’ disciples were no different. The truth is that, even if everything is going great right now, the storms will definitely come one day. It only takes a split second for everything to be flipped upside down. No matter how hard you are hit against the storms, you need to develop deep roots. Just as Jesus calmed the storm, we should have confidence that He has a solution for all the storms of life.

Prayer Guide: Pray that God will strengthen you to be able to stand against every storm.
