APPLICABLE PRINCIPLES OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Scripture Reference: Matthew 15:1-9

Exposition:

The kingdom of God, just like any other medium has got principles. There are also laws in place that determine effects within the kingdom of God.

The kingdom of God is a central part of the message of Jesus Christ. It is an invitation for people to return back to the life God originally intended from the very beginning. However, God does set up standards of morality and expects us to achieve those standards before we can enter His kingdom.

The first and foremost of the requirements of entry is repentance from sin and rebirth. Jesus must be the king and Lord of your life. Let’s not forget that the lifestyle of the kingdom of God is exact opposite of the kingdoms of the world.

Unlike the kingdom of God, the kingdoms of the world present us with diverse rules and principles through their traditional and customary practices on love, forgiveness, purity or holiness etc.

From our main text, we heard Jesus rebuking the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law for breaking the command of God for the sake of their tradition. Growing up, my family forbade me from marrying from certain tribes which they term evil. As a child I wanted to strictly obey. Meanwhile, about ninety percent (90%) of my suitors were from that tribe and I kept turning them down until one-day God gave me a deep revelation into His word where He lowered the sieve and asked Peter to kill and eat. Peter bluntly refused and called them unclean but God told him not to call what He had created unclean.” This revelation shaped my thinking pattern and today I am married to an amazing woman.

The world has standards which are revealed through traditions and customs. However, God also has standards which are found in His word. With this, He governs His kingdom. As children of God who have received the light, it is prudent on our part to study; know; and exhibit those standards for the effectiveness and efficiency of the gospel.

Prayer Guide: My Lord and Saviour Jesus, help me have a deep revelation in to your word, so I may not conform to the standards of this world.

MEMORY VERSE FOR THIS WEEK: Luke 22:29 (NKJV) – “I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as  my Father bestowed one upon me.”
