THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

Psalm 47:1- 9.

Exposition:

Kingdom as defined by the Oxford dictionary is a country, state, or territory ruled by a king or queen. An example is the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Britain, and Ashanti amongst others. There are two main types of kingdoms; being heavenly which is the spiritual reign or authority of God, and earthly kingdoms.

The kingdom of God was one of Jesus’ most talked about topics, but it’s hardly a well-grasped concept for believers today. If you ask a group of people to define it, you would probably get a variety of answers.

The Greek term for kingdom is used one hundred and sixty-two (162) times in the New Testament, with most of them referring to the Kingdom of God. Yet, how often do we as believers, discuss God’s kingdom and keep it on the forefront of our hearts? I believe one of the reasons we do not talk about God’s kingdom as much as we should, is because we do not fully understand this mysterious concept.

Many people think of the kingdom of God as heaven or as the church. However, the kingdom of God is not an actual physical place. A working definition of God’s kingdom from a biblical perspective can be seen as God’s universal reign as Creator, and Christ’s exhaustive work as Redeemer. Since God is eternal, His kingdom is eternal. The kingdom of God transcends time and space. It belongs to everyone and or anyone who runs to Him. It knows no bounds, and is everlasting.

The Kingdom of God has its own principles and lifestyles which members need to know and observe. We will delve into those principles and lifestyle issues as we get along this week.

Prayer Guide: Dear Lord, help me to fully know, understand and be able to appreciate the mystery of your kingdom.

MEMORY VERSE FOR THIS WEEK: Luke 22:29 (NKJV) – “I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as my Father bestowed one upon me.”
