The International Missions Director (IMD) of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Gyesi-Addo, has stated that the life of the Church of God does not reside in any superhero but the Holy Spirit, who is the driving force behind the existence of the Church.

According to him, though many churches exist and function physically, they are actually dead spiritually because the Holy Spirit who is the life of the Church has been relegated to the background.

“There will be a church alright with the various functioning departments, but it can be a dead church. What makes a church alive is the presence of the Holy Spirit, prayer life of the members and holy living,” he explained.

Apostle Gyesi-Addo said this in a presentation at the 22nd Head Office Management and Staff Retreat at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.

He spoke on the topic, “The Life of the Church; The Holy Spirit in the Church’s Public Worship” with 1 Kings 8:9 as his main text, which states that, “There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.”

The IMD indicated that the Ark of Covenant which represented the presence of God among the Israelites as explained in Hebrews 9:4b, contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.

However, it got to a time when all the content within the ark with the exception of the stone tablets were removed under mysterious circumstances, leaving the ark hollow. He explained that though the ark was physically present, the presence of God had left it.

In the same manner, he said that if churches place attention on personalities (superheroes) and do not commit themselves to prayer and holy lifestyle, the Holy Spirit will desert the church.

“No one is indispensable in the church of God but the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the force behind the church’s public worship,” he asserted.

The IMD, therefore, advised believers to go to church with the expectation of meeting Christ not personalities, saying, “With this mindset, there will be a supernatural visitation of the power of the Holy Spirit whenever Christians meet.

“The life of the church is the Holy Spirit, prayer, and righteous living. If we will give the Holy Spirit His rightful place in the church, we can possess the nations.”
