The Teshie-Nungua Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Alfred Koduah, has asked Christians to consider themselves as bondservants of God and consecrate every part of their bodies to Christ.
“From your forehead to the sole of your feet, consecrate every part of your body to the Lord Jesus Christ, because you are God’s bondservants,” he said.
Apostle Dr Koduah said this on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the Pentecost International Worship Center (PIWC) – Sakumono, during his first visit to the district.
He explained that there are five ways in which someone can become a slave, thus by purchasing a slave (Genesis 17: 12); when slave reproduces children (Genesis 17:12); when a person is taken captivate in war (Numbers 31:9); a wealthy person could have a poor person serving him to pay off a loan (Mathew 18:25), and someone selling him/herself or their children into slavery as a result of poverty (Exodus 21: 2-7).
Reading from Deuteronomy 15: 12-18 and Exodus 21: 2-6, Apostle Dr Koduah said that regardless of how one becomes a slave in the history of Israel, the law was that on the seventh year the slave is set free from the master. “However, if the slave says he wants to continue serving the master, he must be taken to the city gate to be presented to the elders, after which he is taken back to the master’s house where his ear is pierced to the door post with a sharp metal. When this is done, and his wounds healed, he then becomes a bond slave or a bond servant of the master. His status changes and he becomes a bondservant or bond slave,” he said.
According to him, the Bible clearly states that all Christians are bondservants of Christ who have had their earlobes pierced. “You have voluntarily become a slave for life for Christ,” he added.
He advised Christians not to look back on the Christian journey, cautioning that in the Old Testament when a slave runs away from the master and he is arrested, he is either stoned to death or a red-hot metal shaped in a big ‘F’ is placed on his forehead to signify that he is a fugitive.
“Thank God for Jesus Christ who has called us his friends; we are no longer called slaves but a friend of God,” he said, adding that it was only Abraham that God called him His friend, the rest were all servants of God,” he said.
Apostle Dr Koduah further explained that since Jesus Christ died and resurrected, the door has been opened for Christians to move from being a friend of God to a child of God, since Jesus Christ has paid the price for them.
He cited people like Paul, Timothy, Simon Peter, Titus, Jude and James, who described themselves as bondservants for the Lord, and were ever ready to do the master’s bidding.
The Resident Minister, Pastor Anthony Owusu Sekyere Kwarteng, who led the congregation through a time of prayer after the word ministration, was grateful to the Area Head for choosing PIWC Sakumono as his first place of visit after his welcome service.
