The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost (COP), Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, honoured some members of the Church who have excelled in various areas of endeavours.
The honourees, 17 in all, were each presented with a Certificate of Honour for their outstanding feats during the opening session of the 43rd General Council Meetings at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa-Fetteh, near Kasoa.
Among the honourees was Baba Lucky, a 77-year-old member of Zuribisi Assembly in the Bolgatanga Area, who won 298 souls for Christ, out of which 130 were baptised in water.
Elder Dr Maxwell Opoku Afari of PIWC Atomic, Madina Area, was also honoured in recognition of his appointment as the First Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana.
Emmanuel Kyei, a member of PIWC New Tafo in the New Tafo Area, was honoured for emerging as the overall Best Law Student of the Ghana School of Law in the 2015/2016 academic year.
Major Mark Hagan of the Burma Camp Worship Centre in the La Area was honoured for receiving the Overall Best Student Award in Masters in Defence and International Politics (MDIP) at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College 2017.
Elder Gideon Agbese of Chapel Square Assembly of the La District, was also honoured for being adjudged the most Influential Science Teacher for the Senior High Schools in Ghana.
Benita Serwaa Nyarko, aged 10, and Bertha Obeyaa Nyarko, aged 8, from the Kaneshie Area were both honoured for placing second and fourth respectively in the National Maths Quiz (UCMAS) organised by the Ghana Education Service in 2017.
Christiana Safoa, a beneficiary of the New Fadama Worship Centre Compassion Project, in the Kaneshie Area, was honoured for completing the Police Training School and for being adjudged the Best Shooter among the trainees.
Commodore J. O. Kontoh of PIWC Kokomlemle, La Area, on the other hand, was honoured for being appointed the Flag Officer for Commanding the Eastern Naval Command of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The other honourees were: Mrs. Abigail Amponsem of the Missions Department at the Headquarters who was adjudged the 2017 Overall Best Student at the School of Translators of the Ghana Institute of Languages; Mr. Daniel Nyarko of the COP Headquarters Estate Department who received the Chairman’s Best Worker Award for 2017; Jason Emmanuel K. Asante Ghansah of PIWC Kaneshie, who won the 2017 Grand Finale award of the United Bank for Africa Foundation; Ms. Augustina Essiam also of PIWC Kaneshie, Area who was adjudged the Overall Best Student in Banking and Finance at the Central University College for the 2016/2017 batch.
The rest are: Deaconess Agnes Nutakor of Kpeve District, Ho Area who was adjudged the 2nd Best National Best Teacher at the 2017 National Best Teacher Award, Elder Dr. Michel Affam, a Geomatic Engineer and a member of PIWC Tarkwa, Tarkwa Area, who was promoted to the rank of an Associate Professor making him the youngest professor at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT); Mr Kofi Anane of Haatso District who was adjudged the Overall Best Student in the Ghana Chartered Institute of Taxation examination in 2017, and Deaconess Janet Abobigu of the Asuoyeboa District, Kwadaso Area, who received the “Global Official of Dignity” (G.O.D.) from the We Care For Humanity Group at a ceremony in New York (USA) for her humanitarian activities.
Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah commended all the honourees for their commendable feats and urged them to keep up with the good work.
The 43rd Session of the General Council Meetings, which was preceded with the Heads’ Session, was officially opened on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. The event was graced by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, along with other Christian and traditional leaders.
