CONSEQUENCES OF EMOTIONS

Genesis 4:3-16

Exposition

Aristotle once said that “Anyone can become angry – that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way – this is not easy.” Many families, quality relationships, jobs, and opportunities have been destroyed/ missed because of lack of emotional intelligence. People have said things they should not have said and done things they should not have done because they relied on their emotions at the time of the event.

Emotional Intelligence allows individuals to understand themselves and others better, communicate more effectively, and cope with challenging situations. It has the potential to enhance not only leadership abilities and teamwork effectiveness but also personal resilience. Emotional intelligence has been shown to play a meaningful role in academic success, job performance, mental and physical health. This helps you to think logically to effectively connect with your feelings, turn intentions into action, achieve personal goals, manage conflicts and maintain good relationships.

From our scripture reading, because Cain was not able to manage his emotions, he ended up killing his own brother leading to sin, death, punishment and sorrow by family members. Whom have you offended because you could not manage your emotions? To what extent have you fallen short of the Glory of God because you failed to manage your emotions? Know that doing what your emotions tell you will lead to consequences you and others will bear since you will not be able to turn back the hands of time to correct. It is possible for your spirit, soul, and body to be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer Guide: Pray as led.

Memory Verse For This Week: 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NIV) - May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
