Hebrews 6:1-3

MOVING BEYOND BASIC ELEMENTARY DOCTRINES

Hebrews 6:1-3

Exposition

Every Christian must aim to become mature in doctrinal understanding by moving from basic elementary doctrines of the Bible. The systematic and chronological study of the Christian teachings will lead the believer into doctrinal maturity. This serves as a spiritual promotion from one level to another. In the Christian race, believers (sheep) grow into spiritual maturity to become leaders (shepherds) in God’s vineyard. Furthermore, becoming mature as Christians can bring out the completeness of God’s love in our hearts.

In the Christian life, we either go forward or backward; there is no stagnation. We cannot remain in the same spiritual faith for long. Comparing our spiritual maturity to trees, we either grow or die. The writer admonishes Christians to move beyond basic elementary doctrines such as repentance; faith in God; baptism; the laying on of hands; the resurrection of the dead; and eternal judgment. Even though certain elementary teachings are good, we must go unto maturity in the understanding of Christian doctrines. Solid food is for those who are mature, those who, through training, have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.

Hence, you must move from your comfort zone of age-old traditions and basic established doctrines to reach doctrinal maturity. This requires commitment on your part as a Christian ambassador, to study the Scriptures and comprehend the doctrines.

Prayer Guide: Dear Lord, kindly grant me a resilient spirit to study advanced Christian doctrines in order to experience spiritual growth in Jesus’ Name. Amen

Memory Verse For This Week: 2 Corinthians 13:11 (NLT) – Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
