Exposition
Intercession involves an act of praying to God on behalf of someone, a group or a course. It also connotes taking full responsibility for the occurrence or non-occurrence of a matter through an act of petition to God for His intervention. This is premised on the fact that God expects us to call upon Him at all times and He will answer us (Jeremiah 33:3). From today’s reading, Jesus Christ sets the example of who an intercessor is and what intercessors ought to do. Indeed, without love flowing through us, it will be difficult to make intercession. It was love that compelled God to assume the form of man for our redemption. His priestly duties on earth involved interceding on our behalf before God for our redemption, sanctification, edification, unification, and glorification. Without love for lost souls, love for the restoration of the nations, love for the work of God and love for others, our prayer life will be self-centered and myopic in scope. We should follow the example of Christ by praying more for others, and as we do so, God will ensure that all our needs are met.
As intercessors, the destiny of the nations has been entrusted fully to us. If we fail in this ministry, we have failed our spiritual mandate and that may occasion a substantial miscarriage of the possessing the nations’ agenda. Fellow kingdom militants, let us rise to the place of intercession to redeem the nations for our God.
