SELF-IMPROVEMENT

Luke 2:52; 2 Timothy 2:15

Exposition

We thank God for the free gift of life that He has given us to enjoy another week. This week, we will be looking at areas that we can improve ourselves to become the very best that the Lord wants us to be. Self-Improvement is the effort a person puts in to make himself better or more knowledgeable; it is an undeniable fact that the most successful people in the world are people who are constantly working on their personal development and adding value to themselves.

In Luke 2:52, Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature, and favour with God and man. Jesus, our perfect model in the Christian faith, never remained the same. He grew in all matters of learning, including academic excellence, and progressively acquired knowledge and applied it into wisdom; He physically exercised, ate nutritious meals and was well built in stature. Spiritually, He also developed a personal relationship with God through continuous prayer and devotion; He also had favour with man by relating well with them – His growth was holistic. This kind of growth is critical for us as young Christians to enable us meet the dynamic demands of our world that is characterized by constant change.

Apostle Paul admonished Timothy and all believers to continuously work hard to improve upon themselves in order to receive God’s approval as good workers [paraphrased (2 Timothy 2:15)]. God expects us to improve upon our relationship with Him and others, grow in wisdom and also intentionally enhance our value to become relevant to the Church and our society at large.

Prayer Guide: Lord, please help me to continuously improve upon myself in wisdom, stature and to obtain favour in Your sight and that of men.

Memory Verse For This Week: 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT) – Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.
