TOTAL SEPARATION

Genesis 12:1-3

Exposition
God promised to bless Abram and make him a great nation but on the condition of doing the will of God. This was leaving his home, family and friends, and travelling to a new land where God promised. The call undoubtedly would have placed an emotional and psychological burden on Abram, but the call of God always demands total separation from all things, especially our old life. Paul said in 2 Timothy 2:4 (HCSB) that “no one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life: he seeks to please the recruiter.”

The call of God is like a call into military service. Abram had to leave every sphere of his life and follow God completely. The call of God demands total separation from the things of the world (2 Corinthians 6:17) and full dependence on God. The call of Abram required that he separates himself from sin and ultimately adopt a kingdom lifestyle which has a glorious end.

Just as Abram obeyed and walked away from his home for God’s promise of greater and better blessings in the future, we ought to have the courage and faith to do the same when God calls us. God may be leading you to a place of greater service and usefulness for Him. Don’t let the comfort and security of your present position or life make you miss God’s plan for your life. The call of God will mandate you to part with your comfort zone and interests in order to be properly fit for God’s use.

Prayer Guide: I thank you Lord for inspiring me to live a life of total separation unto You. Grant me the strength to endure all the afflictions that may come my way and help me hold unto You till the end.

Memory Verse For This Week: Genesis 12:3 (HCSB) – I will bless those who bless you, I will curse those who treat you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
