Exposition:
The Oxford dictionary defines emotions “as a strong feeling deriving from one’s circumstances mood or relationships with others.” Emotions are responses to significant internal and external events. Thinking about these events extensively can activate some strong feelings within you. Also what other people do or say, such as a hurtful comment, can trigger strong feelings within you. The way we behave sometimes and even the decisions we take show how we feel.
It is interesting to note that we chose activities and hobbies based on the emotions they stimulate. Some common emotions identified are fear, happiness, anger, disgust, surprise and sadness. To a large extent our Christian maturity can be measured by how well we manage our emotions irrespective of the prevailing circumstances.
As children of God, we are privileged to have the Holy Spirit and the word of God to guide us in our daily lives. We also draw strength from God as we pray and yield to him. Therefore, having a good understanding of these emotions can help us navigate life with much ease and balance.
