TOPIC: POWER TO OVERCOME WORLDLY OPPOSITION.
SCRIPTURE REFERENCE: Acts 4:23-31.
EXPOSITION:
Our reading today is about Peter and John who had just been released by the Sanhedrin, following the healing of the man at the beautiful gate. They were threatened not to preach in the name of Jesus again. As humans, the tendency to be scared was there and so they needed power and strength to overcome the opposition.
They came to their fellow believers and they raised their voices to God in prayer for revival. In their prayer session, they had another encounter with the Holy Spirit and through that, they received boldness to proclaim the gospel, not fearing again, the threats of the Sanhedrin.
In our quest to proclaim God’s word and to set ourselves apart for Him, we will face a lot of opposition in the world, some of which will seek to force us to compromise or even abandon our faith by putting fear in us. For us to overcome these fears and worldly opposition, we need the power, strength and boldness that comes from having an encounter with the Holy Spirit. This encounter they had is different from what they had on the day of Pentecost. This clearly tells us that we can have continuous encounters with the Holy Spirit. Desire to have different encounters with the Holy Spirit daily and He will show forth Himself in your life.
PRAYER GUIDE: Dear Holy Spirit, I open up to You. Let me encounter You always to be empowered by You.
MEMORY VERSE FOR THIS WEEK: 1 Samuel 10:6 – “The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.”
