FAITH – HOPING AGAINST ALL HOPE

Romans 4:17-22

EXPOSITION:

Faith is derived from the Latin word, ‘fides’ and the old French word, ‘feid’ which means confidence or trust in a person, thing or concept. Most of the time we sit comfortably on chairs and sofas in the home because we have confidence that it will not break down and hurt us. If we trust in these materials which do not have the tenacity to give life, why can’t we trust in the one who gives restoration to us (Jesus)? In our devotion this week, our attention will be drawn to God and the assurance we should have in Him because He is the author and finisher of our faith.

Abraham became the father of all nations because he believed in;

  1. The God who gives life to the dead;
  2. The God who calls into being things that were not as though they were.

Against all hope, Abraham, in hope, believed in the divine ability of God to create things. When the Spirit of God and the Word of God meet, there is creation (Gen. 1:2,3). Although in reality there was no possibility of giving birth because of age (he was 100 and Sarah was 90), he faced the fact that physically;

  1. His body was as good as dead (since he was hundred years).
  2. Sarah’s womb was also dead.

Amidst these realities he did not make unbelief subdue the promise of God and hence was strengthened in faith and gave glory to God. He was rest assured that God had power to do what he had promised.

REFLECTION:

Do you believe that God can call things which do not exist into existence? Can you accept God’s word as truth over all fact? Do you know that righteousness is credited to us based on our faith in God?

PRAYER: Sing “My hope is built on nothing less” and pray as led. #PossessingtheNations
