Youth Of A-Lang Worship Centre Revel In First Air-Flight Experience

The Youth Ministry of A-Lang Worship Centre in the Odorkor Area of The Church of Pentecost crowned their activities for the year 2018 with an excursion dubbed “Passion Air Ashanti Invasion” where they visited some tourist sites in the Ashanti Region by road and returned to Accra by air.

The trip, which was organised in partnership with Passion Air, a domestic airline company in Ghana, was indeed an unforgettable experience for the members, most of whom were first-time air travelers.

At Kumasi, the group of 50 persons made their first stop at the Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary. With the assistance of a tour guide, they explored the 7km stretch forest reserve which is a natural habitat for various migratory bird species, as well as migratory animals, a variety of butterflies, snakes, bush pigs and antelopes, among others.

The delegation also visited the Manhyia Palace Museum located at the residence of the Asantehene (King of Asante), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The museum showcases some of the historical monuments and rich cultural heritage of the old Ashanti Kingdom. Historical artefacts such as the first black and white television, ceiling fans, refrigerators as well as medals, furniture, drums, palanquins etc. are available for viewing. Also on display are wax sculptures of past chiefs and queens as well as photographs of important events in the history of the Asantes.

The delegation then headed to the Kumasi Airport to undergo the check-in process for their flight back to Accra. To their delight, they met the Odorkor Area Youth Leader, Pastor Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo, and his wife, Mrs. Agartha Agyei Kwafo, in the waiting room, who were on their way back to Accra after a brief visit to Kumasi.

Pastor Agyei Kwafo, who doubles as the Resident Minister for PIWC-Odorkor, seized the opportunity to encourage the youth to continue to aspire for greater heights in life. He also commended the leadership of the Youth Ministry for undertaking such a laudable and visionary initiative. He said that the successful organisation of the excursion goes to prove that nothing is impossible with God. He also said this experience would give youth members the needed exposure and spur them on to aspire for greatness.

“It is my prayer that this would not be the only air flight experience you would have, but a springboard that see you flying around the world to make a global impact,” he said.

He then prayed for travel mercies back to Accra and joined them in a group photograph.

Speaking to PENTECOST NEWS on the sidelines of the excursion, the Youth Leader, Elder Isaac Danful, said that the excursion was part of the A-Lang Youth Ministry’s Regional Diaries initiative, which aims at exposing the youth to the diverse cultures in the country through visits to tourist site(s) in a region of choice annually.

He said that the visit to the Ashanti Region was the fourth in a series of excursions embarked on under the initiative after embarking on three consecutive trips to the Afadjato Mountain (Volta Region), Kakum National Park, Coconut Groove Resort and Hans Cottage (Central Region) and the Nzulezu Stilt Village (Western Region).

He, however, said that in 2018, the leadership of the ministry, in consultation with the leadership of A-Lang Worship Centre, explored the viability of travelling by land and air; thus, going to the Ashanti Region by road and returning by air.

“After some deliberations, we decided to go by road so that members could appreciate the journey from the Greater Accra region to the Ashanti Region, and return by air in order to give youth members a flight experience since most of them had never travelled by air,” he said.

The District Youth Leader was hopeful that the initiative in a way has helped to demystify the perception that some youth members had that air travel is for only the elite in society.

Elder Isaac Danful was very grateful to the Resident Minister of A-Lang Worship Centre, Pastor Francis Broni, and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Broni, for their massive support and encouragement as well as Passion Air for making the trip a reality.
