Winneba Area Ends Elders And Deaconesses Conference

The Second Elders and Deaconesses Conference of the Winneba Area of The Church of Pentecost ended on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC) in Gomoa Fetteh.

The conference which was held over a three-day period was under the theme, “Lead as Shepherds” (John 10:11). It was attended by over 900 officers of the Church in the Winneba Area.

Delivering the opening address, the Winneba Area Head, Apostle Professor Peter Ohene Kyei, indicated that the annual conference was introduced to ensure that lay leaders of the Church in the Area are empowered and refreshed to discharge their responsibilities effectively, hence the conference tagline, “Equipping, Enabling and Encouraging (3Es) Leaders.”

He was hopeful that this year’s conference would help grow all lay leaders in the Area into leaders who will lead as shepherds not only in the Church, but also at their work and market places, and homes.

Speaking on the topic, “The Qualification of a Shepherd” on the last day of the conference, Apostle Professor Kyei emphasized the need for Christian leaders to always pay attention to what qualified them to become Christian leaders. He asked them not to forget such attributes and characteristics as they move on.

He took the participants through what he termed “character/moral and charisma/spiritual qualifications of the Christian leader” with reference to 1 Timothy 3: 1-13, Titus 1:6-9, Acts 6:1-4 and Acts 20:28.

He however stressed that irrespective of how qualified a person may seem to be, it must be noted that Christian leadership is different from secular leadership, and that the difference comes from the fact that “Christian leadership is Christ-centered, people-oriented, and service-oriented.”

Other speakers were Elder E. A. Boate, Prof. Stephen Adei, Dr. Mrs. Abigail Kyei, Mrs. Rita Yaba, and Mrs. Mabel Darko.

The Finance and Administration Director (FAD) of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Nicholas Darko, also took the participants through the “Finance and Financial Management in The Church of Pentecost.”

The event was interspersed with discussions and prayer sessions. The Friday night was also used to discuss various issues of concerns, including a review of the responsibilities of Elders, Deacons and Deaconesses in the Church, the values and practices of the Church, as well as a review of the 2010 communique of the Church.
