Understand Your Calling And Work Hard – Mrs. Gyesi Addo Tells Ministers’ Wives

Mrs. Elizabeth Gyesi-Addo, wife of the International Missions Director (IMD) has asked Ministers’ Wives to understand their calling and work with all seriousness to expand the kingdom of God.

Mrs. Gyesi-Addo said this on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Pentecost Theological Seminary (PTS) during the training for newly posted Missionaries and Wives when delivering a lecture on the topic: “Experiences and Lessons from a Wife Missionary”.

Reading from Ephesians 2:8, she explained that it is a mystery of grace that God could use women as a powerful workforce to save dying souls into His kingdom. “For you to have been called as a Missionary is a great privilege and honour from God,” she asserted.

Mrs. Gyesi-Addo likened ministry to the creation meta-narrative in Genesis 2:20-24. “Ministerial service is just like the Garden of Eden where man is placed there to work. He cannot do this work without the woman. The wife compliments the husband’s work, without which things cannot move on as expected”, she explained.

The wife of the IMD further asserted that, when the wife is overly engaged in her professional job, ministry work is affected. “Some get so deep in their job to the point that, they leave the Mission House for days, weeks and in some cases months. This is not healthy for the Lord’s garden that you are to help your husband to cultivate. You can quit your professional job and God will take care of you. I know what I am talking about. I am a living example”, she elucidated.

Mrs. Elizabeth Gyesi-Addo shared missions experiences from Senegal, France, Switzerland and Gabon.

At Senegal where she and the husband were pioneer missionaries, the few transitory fisher-folks from Ghana who were their main membership, departed prior to their arrival. Though it was a huge challenge, they trusted God, prayed and worked. The resultant glory has been that, throughout Senegal, churches were planted and some of the converts who are indigenes became Ministers of the church.

Mama Elizabeth encouraged Ministers’ Wives to demonstrate commitment and hard work and the Lord will bless them. “At a point on the mission field, few hours after delivery of my child, I went to the prayer meeting of the women since I had to share a very important information with them, without which the work will be affected. With this commitment, the Lord will bless you”, she posited.

She stated that, the roles of wives in ministry include fervent prayer and fasting for the ministry, warm receptiveness to members of the church, empowerment of the women’s ministry and accompanying the husband to areas of ministration with the optimum spiritual support, among others. “
