The Name ‘Jesus’ Is Valuable To Christians – Chairman
The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has said that the name of Jesus is valuable to the Christian and therefore, urged believers to always act in the name.
Apostle Eric Nyamekye said this on Friday, September 28, 2018, at the closing session of the recently-held Evangelism Conference (EVACON 2018) at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa-Fetteh.
Speaking on the topic, “Preaching In The Name Of Jesus” with Acts chapters 3 and 4, and Psalms 9:10 as Bible references, among others, the Chairman said that the name of the Lord is a strong tower in which believers can take refuge.
He explained that when Jesus was conceived in the womb of Mary, the Angel said His name will be ‘Jesus’ because He will save His people from their sins. This, Apostle Nyamekye noted, meant that Jesus was given His name not just because of who He is but because He was going to bring salvation to humanity.
“The Bible says there is no other name in heaven, on earth and underneath given to humankind by which humanity can be saved but the name Jesus (Acts 4:12). This name ‘Jesus’ is the strong tower. Those who surrender to Him and run to His name are saved. Beyond that, those who know this name Jesus trust in Him (Psalm 9:10),” he said.
He also read the story about the lame in Acts 3, who was healed by Peter to emphasize the authority of the name of Jesus.
“A lame man who was begging for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the Jerusalem Temple asked Peter and John for some money for food. Instead they gave him new legs. But Peter did this in the name of Jesus, saying, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’ Afterwards, Peter took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong,’”
He said that the uproar that took place afterwards led to the arrest of Peter and John. “They were brought before the Council of rulers and elders and scribes in Jerusalem; when they had set Peter and John in their midst, they inquired, ‘By what power or by what name did you do this?’
“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by Him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.’”
“Indeed, what this means is that Jesus is still alive because if He wasn’t, the lame man could not have been healed in His name,” he said.
The Chairman, therefore, called on all and sundry to run to Jesus for salvation. He also urged believers to trust and always act in the name of Jesus.
