Tema Area Holds Bible Reading Marathon

The Tema Area of The Church of Pentecost has organised a four-day Bible Reading Marathon as part of the Area’s PEMEM annual activities to encourage the habit of reading the Bible.

The 96-hour non-stop public reading of the Bible was opened on Sunday, 4th February, 2018, at the forecourt of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) at 5:00 pm by the Tema Area Head, Apostle Matthew Larbi Wettey. The event ended on Thursday, 8th February, 2018.

History was made when the Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku, who is a Moslem mounted the podium to do the first Bible reading in Ga from the book of Genesis. This was followed by readings by representatives from all the districts in the Tema Area. It was all joy when participants came in turns to read portions of the Bible in different languages such as Ga, Dangbe, Ewe, Akuapem, Asante, Fante, Russian and English. Interestingly, English was the dominant language.

As part of the programme, the Area donated 250 pieces of Bible to students of Tema Herman Germiner (SOS) School. The delegation which was led by Apostle Larbi Wettey included Pastor Benjamin Ofei Badu, Elder Charles Opoku, Assistant Area PEMEM Leader, and other officials from the Area.

In a short speech, Apostle Wettey admonished the students to take their Christian lives seriously and never joke with reading their Bible.

Climaxing the programme on Thursday evening, the Director of the Pentecost Men’s Ministry (PEMEM), Apostle Emmanuel Ofei Ankrah-Badu, congratulated the Area for successfully carrying out the exercise. He encouraged them to make the reading of the Bible part of their lives.

Those who played key roles in the event included Pastor Benjamin Konotey (Area PEMEM Leader) and Mrs. Charity Kuwornu (Area Women’s Ministry Leader), with support from the Area pastorate.

The Bible Reading Marathon is an annual programme organised by the national directorate of PEMEM. The maiden one was held at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, Accra in 2017.
