Suhum Area Increases Scholarship Enrolment

The Suhum Area of The Church of Pentecost has added ten more beneficiaries onto the Area Educational Scholarship Scheme, in addition to the existing 18 students currently benefiting from the scheme.

The new beneficiaries comprise of four tertiary students who are pursuing various degree programmes at the university, and six others who are learning vocation in tailoring, masonry, hairdressing and fashion design.

The Area Head, Apostle Anthony Eghan Kwesi Ekuban, who disclosed this in an interview indicated that an amount of GH¢28,687.00 has been disbursed so far to the beneficiaries. The Area in 2016 and 2017 spent GH¢12,591.90 and GH¢32,550.80 respectively in bursaries for the beneficiaries.

Apostle Ekuban posited that the Area leadership is committed to playing its role in nation building, and one of the strategies is to support brilliant but needy students to realise their dreams of pursuing higher education. “Poverty should not be a barrier to acquiring the right education and skills development for sustainable livelihood,” he stressed.

The Pentecost Educational Scholarship Scheme of the Suhum Area (PESS-SA) was launched by Apostle Mike Etrue, the immediate-past Area Head on February 3, 2017. The scheme is managed by a committee of seven members comprising two Pastors, the Area Deacon, two Elders and two Deaconesses. Prior to the launching of the scheme, the Area had been assisting needy but brilliant students by paying their fees.

As a way of monitoring the performance of the beneficiary students, Pastor Norman Appiah Danquah, Chairman of the committee and district minister of Suhum, disclosed that an annual guidance and counselling sessions have been instituted to guide the beneficiaries in their academic work.
