Peace Assembly Holds Maiden Leavers’ Conference

The Peace Assembly in the Obuasi Bidieso District of The Church of Pentecost has organized its maiden educational conference for Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) graduates in the District.

The conference, which took place on Sunday, June 23, 2019, was held under the theme: “Mastering The Basics Is What Produces Greatness.” It recorded a huge turnout of both JHS and SHS graduates in the District.

The Presiding Elder of Peace Assembly, who chaired the event, revealed that he has a strong passion for guiding young ones in finding their career path. He also indicated that the conference would be held annually to help all JHS and SHS finalists select courses they passionate about and also choose career paths that match their personal skills and abilities.

He was particularly pleased with the turn out of the graduates, who came in their numbers to gain more knowledge and prepare themselves to face the secondary and tertiary levels respectively.

The facilitators for the conference were: Elder Eben Okai-Yarfi (Presiding Elder, PIWC-Obuasi), Mr. Kwadwo Opoku Danso (Peace Assembly) and Miss Florence Nkrumah (Internal Auditor of Ghana Education Service-Obuasi).

The facilitators took turns to address the graduates on topics concerning; “Course Selection,” “Knowing Your Academic Strengths and Weaknesses,” “Campus Life,” “Discipline” and finally “Career Planning.”

In his presentation, Elder Eben Okai-Yarfi, advised the graduates to make good use of their time while awaiting their results by investing in productive activities.

Miss Florence Nkrumah, who touched on Career Planning, challenged the students to be daring and to move out of their comfort zones. She encouraged them to have a projected view of what the future might be, in the next decade or two, so they acquire the necessary skill set to fit in and excel.

The graduates were also admonished to pay much attention to some core topics which included; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, which was summarized in the acronym, “STEM.” It was noted that this generation is fast moving towards sectors surrounding these topics.

There was a question and answer session at the end of the presentations to give participants the opportunity to gain further clarifications on issues of interest.
