Okornya District Educates Members On Prevention Of Domestic Fires

The Okornya District in the Agormanya Area of The Church of Pentecost has organized a day’s seminar to educate members on how to prevent domestic fires (Fire Safety Precautions) and maintain good hygiene in the kitchen.

The event, which took place on Friday, September 21, 2018, at the Okornya Central Assembly, drew members from all the local assemblies in the District including the District Minister, Pastor Alex Kyei Yeboah, and his wife, Mrs. Roberta Kyei. Also present were some personnel from the Ghana Fire Service who were the resource persons for the event.

In his opening remarks, the District Minister, Pastor Alex Kyei Yeboah noted that knowledge is power and that members need to acquire the relevant information pertaining to fire in order to avoid its fire outbreak in the home.

Speaking at the event, Elder George Appiah Odoi, a Fireman at the Somanya Fire Station, took members through the various types of fires and the steps and precautions to be adhered to in order to avoid fire outbreak in the kitchen, market, home, among others.

He admonished members to avoid carelessness since it is one of the major causes of fire outbreaks in the home. He further cautioned them to always place gas cylinders outside the kitchen, turn off gas cylinders before putting the burner off, put on slippers before opening the fridge, avoid touching electrical cables with their bare hands, inspect tube of gas cylinders every three months for leakages, among others, so as to avoid fire outbreaks.

In turn, Mr. Samuel Darko, also from the Somanya Fire Station, practically took the participants through various ways of fighting fires. He told members to purchase fire extinguishers and place them at vantage points in their houses. He also encouraged all Presiding Leaders to acquire firefighting equipment in their respective assemblies as well as the Mission House.

The event was climaxed with a cooking competition between the Women and Men’s ministries. The event ended with a clarion call on men who are good at cooking to assist their wives in the kitchen.
