Odorkor Area Launches ‘Environmental Care Campaign’

The Odorkor Area of The Church of Pentecost, under the leadership of Apostle Patrick Aseyoro, on Monday, January 7, 2019, launched the Area’s environmental care campaign.

The colourful ceremony, which took place at the Odorkor Central church auditorium, was attended by a host of dignitaries and members of the Church most of whom were clad in green and white branded T-shirts with the campaign slogan ‘Environmental Care, My Responsibility’ boldly embossed on them.

Present at the event were Nii Afla Manye I (Chief of Odorkor) and his entourage, representatives of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ablekuma North and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency as well as the Odorkor Area pastorate.

The ‘Environmental Care Campaign’ is an initiative of The Church of Pentecost in partnership with the government of Ghana and Zoomlion Ghana Limited aimed at sensitizing members of the Church across the country and Ghanaians as a whole on the urgent need to keep their surroundings clean.

On November 21, 2018, a grand ceremony was held at the Dome of PIWC-Kokomlemle to launch the sanitation campaign at the national level.
The Odorkor Area launch of the campaign was in line with the implementation plan of the campaign which requires that all areas, districts and local assemblies of the Church launch it at their levels to ensure its effective implementation across the country.

Addressing the gathering at the event, the Coordinator for the Area’s sanitation campaign, Pastor John Tetteh Wayoe, who doubles as the Gbawe District Minister, quoted Psalms 24:1 and stressed that God is the owner of all things because the earth and everything in it is His.

He called on Christians, who are children of God, to be concerned about the welfare of the environment since it is their Father’s. He, therefore, noted that the campaign has been introduced to encourage every Ghanaian, particularly members of the Church and Christians in general, to take proper care of the environment.

Launching the campaign, the Area Head, Apostle Patrick Aseyoro, stated that the Odorkor Area, which boasts of 18 districts and a population of over 37,000 members, has enough numbers to improve the poor sanitary condition of the Odorkor community and its enclave.

He, therefore, called on all and sundry to support the Church’s sanitation drive in order to transform the nation. He also called for concrete actions to be undertaken in order to make the campaign more impactful and deal with the environmental challenges of the country once and for all. Apostle Patrick Aseyoro also urged every household to get a bin and desist from littering the environment.

The Queenmother of Gbawe-Mallam, Naa Kwatsoo Manye I, who also graced the event, lauded the Church for undertaking such a noble initiative. She advised the citizenry to be responsible and ensure proper disposal of waste.

Mrs. Emma Boakye, Head of Communications at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, on her part, said that waste is a natural resource which could be harnessed for the economic benefit of the country.

According to her, the country could earn more revenue through effective management and processing of waste. She explained that the processing and recycling of waste could serve as an avenue for job creation in order to reduce youth unemployment in the country.

The Odorkor Area would officially kick-start the sanitation drive with a massive clean-up exercise at the Mallam Market on Saturday, January 12, 2019. The event would also be used to create awareness on the need for all Ghanaians to be active players in keeping the entire country clean.
