Missions Office Donates 36-Seater Boat To Akateng District

The Missions Directorate of The Church of Pentecost General Headquarters has donated a 36-seater boat to the Akateng District in the Agormanya Area of the Eastern Region.

The International Missions Director (IMD), Apostle Emmanuel Gyesi-Addo, dedicated the boat and presented it to the district on January 9, 2019. He was assisted by the Agormanya Area Head, Apostle James Gabriel Quardson, and the Akateng District Minister, Overseer Abrahams Harvoh.

Speaking at a service prior to the presentation, Apostle Gyesi-Addo admonished Christians to be agents of transformation in every sphere of life that they find themselves.

Reading from Luke 10:25-37, he indicated that in the Parable of the Good Samaritan, the Good Samaritan defied all odds and went to the aid of the man who was beaten up by robbers.

According to the IMD, the Good Samaritan had compassion for the man. “He felt the man’s pains. Thus, to cause an indelible transformation in the society and in the lives of people, we must be compassionate, especially towards the vulnerable,” he said.

He bemoaned the upsurge in corruption in the country, and thereby entreated people in responsible positions to have compassion for the people they are leading.

The IMD likened the man beaten to a pulp to the citizenry who are “robbed” of their rights and privileges they are to enjoy in their nations.

“We should not ignore people who are suffering like the priest and the Levite did to the man. We must be agents of transformation,” he said, adding, “Life is not just about how much knowledge you acquire but it is about the transformation you cause with the knowledge you have acquired.

“Therefore, Christians must transform every sphere of life with the principles of Christ. We have been made ‘light’ for the darkened world and ‘salt’ for the corrupt world.”

The Agormanya Area Head, Apostle Quardson, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Missions Office for the donation, which he described as timely. He explained that the boat will go a long way to help the district reach out to the communities beyond the Volta Lake with the gospel.

The Dome District of the Achimota Area, led by Pastor Isaac Siaw Lartey, and the Area Head, Apostle David Tettey Terkper, were also commended for donating an outboard motor worth GH₵13,000 and five life jackets to the Akateng District.

The District Minister, Overseer Abrahams Harvoh, noted that the boat will boost the work of ministry in the district.

The Akateng District currently has 17 local assemblies of which only three can be reached by means of travelling on land. The remaining can be reached by travelling on the Volta Lake.

Present at the event were Mrs. Elizabeth Gyesi-Addo (wife of the IMD), Mrs. Felicia Quardson (wife of the Agormanya Area Head), Pastor Gideon Kofi Boadu-Yirenkyi (IMD’s Personal Assistant), and the pastorate in the Agormanya Area.

Others were: Her Worship Alberta Amponsah (Judge of the Asesewa District Magistrate Court), chiefs from the Upper Manya Krobo Traditional Council, among others.
