Give To Receive In Abundance – Apostle Dzemekey Urges Christians

The Asokwa Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Peter Kofi Dzemekey, has urged Christians to give their widow’s mite towards the growth of the Kingdom business to receive abundant blessings from God.

He made this call on Thursday, April 11, 2024, during a 3-day prayer meeting organised by the New Tafo Area at the Sepe Revival Centre under the theme, “Unleashed To Transform My World Through Sacrificial Giving,” based on 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 and Luke 6:38.

Speaking on the topic, “Whatever You Want In Abundance, Give The Little You Have,” Apostle Dzemekey stated that the unleashed Christian is not tight-fisted, but gives what they have to support God’s work, saying, “The simplest way to get what you want in abundance is to give the little you have.”

Using the story of Jesus feeding the crowd with minimal food resources in Matthew 14:13-21 as an example, the Asokwa Area Head explained that giving even a little to the Lord can result in receiving much more in return.

“If you are willing to give the little you have, you will be a blessing by receiving in abundance,” he said.

Highlighting Jesus’ power and ability to turn situations around, Apostle Dzemekey encouraged the congregation not to roam in search of help from other sources but to remain at Jesus’ feet and trust in His ability to provide for their needs, just as He fed the crowd in the wilderness.

“The crowd found themselves in the wilderness and it was getting too late, which signified hopelessness, but Jesus was able to provide for them in that situation and they all ate and were satisfied, picking up twelve baskets full of leftover pieces,” he explained.

He also emphasised the importance of Christians seeking God’s anointing, prioritising holiness, and staying devoted to prayer to draw others to Christ.

Present at the service were Mrs. Faith Dzemekey (Wife of Asokwa Area Head), Prophet Samuel Tetteh Doku (New Tafo Area Head), the Area pastorate, and their wives, among others.

Deacon Ebenezer Yeboah Receives Plaudit For Climate Change Research

Deacon Ebenezer Akore Yeboah, an emergency department nurse in the United Kingdom, has received high commendation for his exceptional research work on climate change.

Deacon Akore Yeboah, who is an officer at the Pentecost International Worship Center (PIWC), Coventry, in line with the 2024 theme of The Church Of Pentecost, “A People of God Unleashed to Transform their World,” decided to transform his sphere by considering how to cut the waste of single-use plastics, properly sorting waste, and reducing power consumption.

With knowledge that the National Health System (NHS) accounts for 4% of England’s total carbon footprint and creates as many emissions each year as the whole of Croatia, the 27-year-old Ghanaian practicing as a nurse in the United Kingdom decided to focus his PhD research at the Coventry University on how he and his colleagues at the NHS could reduce their carbon footprint.

Reacting to the recognition from the Royal College of Nursing, Deacon Ebenezer Akore Yeboah indicated that he felt honored to be recognized by such a prestigious institution with over half a million members.

“I can see climate change happening all around us and globally, and when people are displaced by situations created by climate change, health professionals are the ones to look after them, and when we are doing that we are adding to the carbon footprint,” he said.

He went on to add that he wishes his research would help empower nurses to have the ability to fight climate change as they and other health workers play a key role in fighting climate change and its negative effects.

“I want this research to help empower nurses to be able to fight climate change, and we all need to do our bit,” Ebenezer Akore Yeboah uttered.

Ebenezer Akore Yeboah moved to the United Kingdom two years after becoming a nurse in Ghana and has been practicing in Coventry and Warwick.

CLOSING THE BACKDOOR BUILDING TRUSTWORTHY LOCAL CHURCHES web

Closing The Backdoor: Building Trustworthy Local Churches

INTRODUCTION

As part of the Church’s mission in 2024 to unleash the whole church to transform the world, a key focus is on closing the backdoor within our Local Churches. This article explores the concept of closing the back door of the Local Churches, suggesting how to bolster trust in the church to enhance the retention of church members, thereby dealing with those who leave through the back door.

CLOSING THE BACK DOOR

Closing The Back Door of the Local Church has been explained by Apostle William Ohemeng-Kwakye as adopting pragmatic, spirit-led approaches to prevent the gradual process where persons withdraw from the church without notice or anyone’s concern. The term refers to the crucial task of ensuring that members don’t quietly exit our assemblies without being noticed.

BACKSLIDERS IN THE LOCAL CHURCHES

It is my firm belief that there are two distinct categories of backsliders in the church: those captured on our reports as backsliders because they have physically left or stopped coming to church, and those who, while attending church services, are suddenly unengaged and passive. Such people are backsliders at heart.

FACTORS THAT OPEN THE BACKDOOR AND WAY FORWARD

There is a plethora of reasons why individuals leave our churches, ranging from personal challenges to structural and doctrinal issues. Factors such as lack of connection, lifestyle changes such as moving to a new location, schooling, and work contribute to the opening of the Church’s back door. Also, having negative experiences in church, and the current diverse religious and cultural pluralism have been outlined as some of the reasons why people leave our churches. While various strategies have been proposed to address this challenge, such as implementing seeker-sensitive services, conducting pastoral visits, having regular roll call, and enhancing welfare practices, I propose a fundamental approach: taking intentional steps to building trust within our Local Churches.

THE LOCAL CHURCH IN A SUSPICIOUS WORLD

Our contemporary world is filled with suspicions in almost everything. Our phones have passwords, our houses have security doors and windows, and our workplaces have CCTV cameras. All these are proof of how generally suspicious our world has become. A study conducted by Ipsus UK in 2023 on the global trust index in institutions and professions reveals a general lack of confidence in systems and institutions. According to the report, people have the highest confidence in doctors, scientists, and teachers. Even that, just under 60% expression of trust. Conversely, trust in clergy, journalists, government, and politicians according to the report was below 30%. These findings go a long way to prove that the church is situated in a world with relatively low levels of trust. Many people are suspicious. Therefore, to close the backdoor of our Local Churches, deliberate actions must be taken to bolster the trust of its members.

TRUST DEFINED

Webster defines trust as confidence; a reliance or resting of the mind on the integrity, veracity, justice, friendship or other sound principle of another person.

A TRUSTWORTHY LOCAL CHURCH

From the above, we can define a trustworthy Local Church as a Christian gathering of believers where members have restful confidence in the integrity and veracity of its people (both leaders and members), structures, processes, and practices.

THE POWER AND SIGNIFICANCE OF TRUST

Trust transcends secular contexts such as business, governance, and relationships. It is the most essential form of capital any organization or leader has. Its significance is even more pronounced within the church, which is entrusted with matters of eternal significance. In their article, posted on Harvard Business Review titled, “Begin with Trust,” Frances X. Frei and Anne Morriss wrote, “Trust is the reason we’re willing to exchange our hard-earned paychecks for goods and services, pledge our lives to another person in marriage, cast a ballot for someone who will represent our interests.”

CHARACTERISTICS OF TRUSTWORTHY LOCAL CHURCHES

A. AUTHENTICITY: In a Local Church that is built on trust, there is authenticity. Members feel safe to genuinely be themselves without being judged by others. They are willing to be vulnerable to other members within the congregation, especially leadership, with their heartfelt struggles and desires being fully persuaded that they would be accepted and supported instead of being condemned or betrayed. To put it in more biblical language, in this Local Church, “members do not think of themselves more highly than they ought to think, but think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith” (Romans 12:3 NKJV). Also, love demonstrated in this church is “without hypocrisy”. Members in this church “abhor what is evil but cling to what is good, being kindly affectionate towards one another with brotherly love, and in honor giving preference to one another” (Romans 12:9-10 NKJV).

B. RESPECT FOR PEOPLE: in trustworthy Local Churches, members feel valued. Leadership decisions, programs, and actions are geared towards serving the best interests of its members also. Members feel listened to, cared for, and involved in the ministry of the church, using their different gifts “according to the grace that is given to them” to serve the body (Romans 12:6). In this church, members are not ministered to, visited, or contacted merely with selfish motives: what one may gain, or for the sake of records or out of duty, but out of willingness, eagerness, and genuine concern for them (1 Peter 5:2-3).

C. PROOF OF COMPETENCE: a trustworthy Local Church proves to be competent in fulfilling its purpose. Such Local Churches understand that they have become havens for people who are nurturing various ambitions and callings. Also, these churches believe that God has a divine plan and purpose for everyone in their congregation (Jer. 29:10; Eph 2:10). Therefore, they position themselves as equipping centers where members are trained and unleashed into the world to fulfill their divine assignments to the glory of God (Eph. 4:11-16). Again, these Local Churches understand that, unlike other organizations, they bear the responsibility of nurturing the eternal souls of their members, and any misstep in fulfilling this duty could result in eternal consequences. Therefore, in Local Churches where trust is cherished, members find safety in knowing that they are under the guidance of competent leaders who are grounded in faith and are committed to teaching the unadulterated word of God, demonstrating both personal and doctrinal integrity for the well-being of the church.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR BUILDING TRUSTWORTHY LOCAL CHURCHES

To build trustworthy Local Churches, the following recommendations may be considered:

a. Putting competent leadership in place in each local assembly. In assigning leaders to Local Churches, leadership must ensure due diligence, ensuring that individuals selected possess the Biblical requirements for church leadership: Spirit-filled, of proven and trustworthy character, knowledgeable, humble, hospitable, etc.

b. Careful attention must be given to processes for assimilating new members into the assemblies. New members and converts class must feature lessons beyond theological education to understanding in practical terms the structures and practices of the church.

c. Upholding confidentiality in counseling. Where available, professional counselors who are members of the Local must be made to lead the counseling ministry of the Local Churches.

d. Demonstrating integrity in the handling of the word of God. The Preacher’s plan must be shared in advance to enable those on program to prepare adequately before stepping into the pulpit to share the word of God. Also, preachers must be willing to wait on God to hear from Him and to declare the whole counsel of God to their members.

e. Demonstrating genuineness and firmness in administering welfare practices in the Local Church. Approved guidelines provided by the church must be rigorously followed without fear or favor.

f. Demonstrating strict financial discipline in the Local Church. Uphold transparency and accountability in all financial transactions in the church.

g. Organizing impactful and Spirit-filled programs where members have real encounters with God. Enough time must be spent in planning programs to meet the needs of members for the glory of God.

h. Uphold high standards in church discipline, demonstrating courage, promptness, integrity, and compassion when administering discipline in the church.

i. Practicing appreciation: members who have served well in the Local Church must be openly and sincerely commended to encourage others to follow their example.

CONCLUSION: A CALL TO A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY

It is my firm belief that when Local Churches adopt these recommendations, they will become a trustworthy entity where its members grow and thrive. However, while building trustworthy Local Churches is an obvious leadership responsibility, it is noteworthy that it is also a collective responsibility. By collectively prioritizing authenticity, love, value, and competence in the Local Church, leaders and members together can cultivate an environment where individuals feel secure, supported, and spiritually nourished, thereby helping to close the backdoor of the Local church.

Bethel English Assembly Organises “Gethsemane Hour”

A five-day mega prayer conference, dubbed “Gethsemane Hour,” organised by the Bethel English Assembly in the New Onyinase District of The Church of Pentecost, took place this year from April 9 to 14, 2024, at the Bethel English Assembly auditorium.

According to history, the Gethsemane Hour programme has been consistent for over five years and is organized six times each year. Whenever the Gethsemane Hour programme is held, there have been numerous testimonies and breakthroughs.

The theme for the second edition of the event was “Called Out of Darkness to Life.” Participants were taught the authority of the Christian as the salt and light of the world. Additionally, speakers of the programme asserted that the call of the Christian out of the world to His marvellous light is not for their advantage but for the benefit of those watching in the world.

The speakers expounded on the fact that darkness in the spiritual realm contains a lot of negativities, including moral depravity, a dead conscience, and total alienation from God, from which God has called believers into His marvellous light. It was also emphasised that Jesus’s proclamation to be the light of the world simply implies that He is the antidote to every darkness in the world.

The speakers for the second edition of the Gethsemane Hour were Pastor Richmond Mensah (Aworowa District Minister), Elder Richard Daleku, Elder Frank Yeboah, and Elder Thomas Addo. Also present were Pastor Joshua Amehlor-Jackson (New Onyinase District Minister), Elder John Asumadu (Presiding Elder), Elder Peter Kusi (New Onyinase District Secretary), and the local presbytery, among others.

Life Without God Is Meaningless web

Life Without God Is Meaningless- Apostle Jimmy Markin

The Evangelism Ministry Director and Executive Council Member of The Church Of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Amos Jimmy Markin has asserted that living a life without God at the center of it is a meaningless life.

He made this declaration at the forecourt of the EK Kyei Worship Center on Friday April 12, 2024 during the climax of the ‘Tarkwa For Christ Crusade’.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Life is meaningless without God,’ Apostle Jimmy Markin said that, “life is the most important single pursuit of all men at all times”, while adding that regardless of the gender or social status of people, their greatest desire is to preserve their lives.

The Evangelism Ministry Director pointed out that, due to the great value of life, academics and philosophers put in several efforts to understand it whiles others are trying their best to live it  for satisfaction but to no avail.

Using the life of King Solomon as case study, Apostle Jimmy Markin indicated that, Solomon was a great Philosopher and architect.  Apart from that, he inherited great wealth and material things from his father David who was a mighty king.

He explained that Solomon as a philosopher, decided to pursue wisdom but ended up being foolish. In his pursuit for this wisdom, Solomon added 700 wives and 300 concubines. But one thing that was certain is that even with all the wealth, material things, wives and concubines Solomon had, he never got the satisfaction he desired in life.

Apostle Jimmy Markin called on people who have the urge to live life us they want to know that, King Solomon and many others before them had engage in such lifestyles many years before them but didn’t end them well and so should rather pursue a God-centered life.

“A wise man is the one who knows that someone has tried something that didn’t work and so wouldn’t do same,” he said.

Another thing the man of God emphasized on is the fact that, just like Adam and Eve had the option of choosing between the Tree of Life which gives eternal life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil but chose the latter, all humans have an option to choose between a meaningless life which is without God and a meaningful life which has God at its center.

The Crusade saw over a thousand people giving their lives to Christ, with many others rededicating their lives.

God Has A Word For Every Situation – Apostle Anthony Mensah Asserts

The Resident Minister for the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC)-Atomic, Apostle Anthony Mensah, has asserted that God has a word to deal with every situation His people find themselves in.

Apostle Mensah made this assertion on Friday, April 12, 2024, when he delivering a sermon at the morning session on the final day of the ‘Tarkwa For Christ Crusade.’

Speaking on the theme, “There is a word for the situation,” he explained that God intentionally allows His people to experience challenging situations because He has the power to save them.

He revealed that God uses three categories of words to save His people: the spirit word, the incarnate word, and the written word.

According to him, the spirit word is the word of God that is in Christians who have the Holy Spirit in them, and that word functions through them.

Touching on the incarnate word, he explained that it is the word of God that brings life to seemingly dead and hopeless situations, saying, “This word represents Jesus, who brought life and transformation wherever He went.”

Apostle Mensah noted that this word travels faster than light and nothing can stop it. Jesus demonstrated this by commanding healing instead of praying for it, he stated.

For this, he said, Jesus did not pray for healing; he commanded it.

Regarding the ‘written word,’ he explained that it is captured from the book of Genesis to Revelation and is written for the complete joy of His people as captured in 1 John 1:4

Apostle Mensah used the story of Jesus sleeping in the boat during a storm, as recorded in Mark 4:35-41, to illustrate God’s orchestration of challenges in believers’ lives.

He further asserted that Jesus was very much aware of the troubling situation the disciples were going through, but He deliberately ignored them until they would acknowledge that He has the power to calm the storms.

He explained that just like Jesus deliberately ignored the disciples in the stormy situation, God also orchestrates or allows His people to go through challenges, hoping that they will not try to handle the situation by themselves but hand it over completely to God so He turns the situation around for good.

By contrasting Cain and Abel’s story with the heavenly significance of Jesus’ blood, Pastor Akonu underscored the unmatched superiority of Christ’s blood, which speaks from Heaven.

He explained that the blood of Jesus bears a superior witness, overpowering any opposing force or judgment.

Using the example of a woman caught in a sinful act facing condemnation under the law, Pastor Akonu illustrated how Jesus’ voice of compassion and forgiveness silenced the accusers, underscoring the unique power of Jesus’ blood to bring grace and redemption.

The Afienya Zone Chairman highlighted the superior voice of Jesus’ blood, drowning out doubts and negativity, reinforcing the faith and drowning out conflicting voices or doubts. I am running a few minutes late; my previous meeting is running over.

He further expounded on the superior power and authority inherent in Jesus’ blood, emphasising its priceless nature that cannot be bought or sold.

The church’s worth is measured by its impact on the world,” Apostle Nyamekye asserted.

He urged Christians to influence society with the values and principles of God’s kingdom, emphasising that true worship isn’t confined to a church building but should be evident in the world at large.

Drawing from the scriptures, he cited Acts 17:24, reminding the congregation that God does not dwell in temples made by human hands and that a Christ-like lifestyle should be maintained outside the church premises.

He also referenced Colossians 3:23, encouraging everyone to work wholeheartedly as if serving the Lord, not people.

Apostle Nyamekye also pointed to Isaiah 60:1-4; 21:22, highlighting the potential within the land of Israel to rise as a great nation, symbolizing the potential within every community to flourish under divine guidance.
