Margaret Awuenyogu Wins USAID-FinGAP Award

Date: January 11, 2018

Deaconess Margaret Awuenyogu of Chuchuliga District in the Bolgatanga Area of The Church of Pentecost has gained international recognition for her entrepreneurial initiative in agricultural business in Ghana.

Deaconess Awuenyogu was presented the award on December 5. 2017, at an award ceremony held at the Alisa Hotel by the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Honorable Otiko Afisa Djaba, on behalf of USAID-FinGAP, for championing the course of women in the Upper East Region.

Currently, Deaconess Awuenyogu, 38, leads about 300 women in her agribusiness project.

It is also worth noting that she was used as the cover of the last edition of the USAID's “Feed the Future” brochure. This has served as a great encouragement to Madam Margaret Awuenyogu and the other women in the church.

USAID-FinGAP (Financing Ghanaian Agricultural Project) is a five-year project (2013-2018) aimed at facilitating finance and investment in the maize, rice and soy supply and value chains in Northern Ghana.

It also aims at improving ancillary services so that agribusinesses can operate at full capacity and expand levels of food security in the country.

In a related development, Mrs Margaret Awuenyogu was adjudged the 3rd Best Farmer in the Builsa North District on December 1, 2017, during the recently-held National Farmers’ Day Awards.
