The New Tafo Area of The Church of Pentecost has organised a seminar for church news reporters selected from the 18 districts in the Area.
The seminar was held at Kenyase Central Assembly on November 18, 2017, on the theme: “Impacting Generations through News Reporting and Social Media.” It was aimed at equipping participants to develop their writing skills and to evangelize effectively through social media.
Opening the seminar, Pastor Seth Opoku, the Area Reporter, who is also the minister in-charge of Kenyase District, gave a brief background of news reporting in the Church.
He indicated that “church news reporting is a ministry,” admonishing participants to be committed to it. He took them through some basic lessons in news reporting and introduced them to the various sources of news in the Church.
Mr Dennis Owusu, an Area Reporter from the Mamponteng District, also gave a presentation on the use of social media for effective evangelism.
He encouraged the participants to make good use of social media to disseminate information about events taking place in their local assemblies and districts in order to win souls for Christ. He further entreated them to support their reports with good pictures to attract readers.
There was a workshop on news writing to enable participants to practice what they had been taught, after which common errors in news reporting were pointed out and corrected.
In his closing remarks, Pastor Seth Opoku encouraged the reporters to put what they had learnt into practice to impact their generation.
In attendance was Pastor Titus Oni Kwarteng of Bonwire District, a member of the Area Publications Committee.
