Mrs Magdalene Mensah, 48, a Deaconesss of the North Suntreso Pentecost
International Worship Centre, Kumasi, has won the 2008 Second Best National
Teacher Award. For her prize, she was given a double-door Nissan pick-up,
computers and a certificate.
“I was subjected to interviews at the district, region and national levels
before being chosen. A special field team was sent to check my personal file
for my performance and that of my students, relationship with my colleagues and
students, and my community participation,” Magdalene told the Pentecost
Fire.
Born in Kumasi to Mr Stephen Joe Appiah, deceased, and Madam Regina Appiah on
April 6, 1960, Magdalene attended the Sefwi Wiawso Anglican Primary and Girls
Schools, undertook the ‘O’ level course at Sefwi Wiawso Secondary School and the
‘A’ level at the Ghana Institute of Languages. She also undertook a French
course at Mount Mary College, Somanya.
In 1996, Magdalene had a BA degree in French/Law from the Kwame Nkrumah
University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, and the MA in Comparative
Literature in French in 2005, also from the same university.
Magdalene is married to Mr. Mawuli Mensah, an economist, who is in the USA. They
are blessed with two children, Caleb, a student at KNUST who is studying
Meteorology, and Milanie who is in the Martyrs of Uganda Preparatory School,
Kumasi.
